Web
site buys life saving monitors for kids' hospital
A
child care website set up by two Harrow based entrepreneurs has
donated two vital portable monitors to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The monitor which measure a child's vital signs cost £ 3,000
and were paid by smallfolk.com, one of UK's largest parenting and
paediatrics web sites.
The
machines are in transit from one department to another and monitor
heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels in the blood, body temperature
and carbon dioxide.
The
web site provides parents with online access to expert child care
advice and guidance on education, health, psychology and psychiatry
for youngsters aged 0 to 5 years.
Each
year the hospital, which treats more than 100,000 young children,
aims to raise £12 million to update medical and surgical equipment
and fund research into childhood illness.
For
every £1 spent on products, Smallfolk.com gives 5p towards
vital equipment for the hospital.
Alec
Raven, Marketting executive for the hospital children's charity,
said:
"Working with Smallfolk.com appealed to us because of their
commitment to helping children."
Ilesh
Kotecha, co founder of the website, said:
"As a single parent working long hours in the city, i found
it difficult to find reliable and readily available child care information,
so the idea os Smallfolk.com was born out of need. Great Ormond
Street Hospital was the ideal partner. They provide high quality
information and enable us to support sick children and their families
in the process.
