Review
of Smallfolk.com
SmallFolk,com
was launched in June of this year in partnership with Great Ormond
Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC) to provide parents and
carers of children in their formative years with online access to
child related information, products and services. With over 3,000
pages, sourced from experts at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital,
Smallfolk.com is the largest paediatric site in the UK and sells
over 1,300 lines in its shopping zone covering all aspects of children's
needs in toys, software, books and toiletries. It is an ethical site
in that air its items are carefully selected to contribute to the
development of children and it does not sell items that either appear
to promote violence, or fail to contribute to a child's development.
Smallfolk.com also provide parents with online access to child experts
and professionals who will answer questions and give guidance on
education, health, psychology and psychiatry for children aged 0
to 5 years. In addition, its online forums allow parents to share
their experiences and discuss child related issues. Whilst providing
the very best in childcare information and products, Smallfolk.com
is also the only website committed to raising funds for child-related
causes and making a difference to children. Through its partnership
with GOSHCC, for every pound spent on its products Smallfolk.com
donates 5p to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and through
its sales it recently donated a vital signs monitor for their work
with sickchildren. Co-founder llesh Kotecha, said, "As a single
father working long hours in the city, I found it hard to find reliable
and readily available childcare information, so the idea of Smallfolk.com
was born out of need. Great Ormond Street Hospital was the ideal
partner. They provide high quality information and also enable us
to help support sick children and their families in the process.'
Other charities and child-related causes are also encouraged to
nominate projects that require funding. Smallfolk.com publicises
these projects by offering to create a web site within its own site
at no cost to the charity. For instance, a nursery that requires
educational toys can nominate projects on the Smalltolk.com site
and encourage parents' support by purchasing through them. This
benefits the parents in two ways. Firstly, they can purchase products
at a cheaper cost than available throughout the high street and
secondly, in doing do they are helping to raise funds to enhance
and facilitate their child's nursery environment.
